THEATRE - Actors, National Theatre of Scotland

8 March 2023

PLEASE READ CAREFULLY AND ONLY SUBMIT IF SUITABLE

Closing date:

Tuesday 21st March at 5pm

We are delighted to announce that we are now accepting self-tape submissions from professional actors who would like to be considered for future National Theatre of Scotland castings. The tapes will be viewed by a select panel of National Theatre of Scotland (NTS) artistic staff and Associate Artists and Directors. The panel will consist of NTS Artistic Director, Jackie Wylie and staff, Rachel Sanger, Callum Smith, Robyn Ferguson; Associates, James Orange, Johnny McKnight, Debbie Hannan and, Finn Den Hertog; Directors, Niloo-Far Khan, Jaïrus Obayomi and Casting Director, Michael Howell.

All actors will have the option to receive feedback on their tapes.

The submission window is now open and will close on Tuesday 21st March at 5pm.

We are only accepting submissions from actors who haven’t worked with us before or who haven’t worked with us in the past five years. Actors do not need to have an agent or be on Spotlight to submit a self-tape and can be at any stage of their career, with or without formal training.

  • We want to hear from actors who were born, raised or are currently based in Scotland.

  • In addition, we are especially keen to receive submissions from actors who are d/deaf, disabled, neurodivergent and trans. We welcome tapes from actors of all ethnicities, gender identities, body types and from all backgrounds. We also encourage submissions from actors who use Gaelic or BSL.

HOW TO APPLY

All applicants must be 16 years or older.

We are asking people to submit two tapes.

1.The first tape is to be a recording of our set text (available in English, Gaelic and BSL) which you can download at the bottom of this page. You can submit in English, Gaelic or BSL.

2. The second should be one other piece of your choosing that best showcases your talent. If you choose to sing a song for your second piece, an accompaniment is preferred if possible.

Please ensure you state your full name at the beginning of both tapes. Both pieces should be no longer than 90 seconds.

For filming advice, you can find useful tips here: https://s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/nationaltheatrescotland/PDFs-Programmes/NTS-Filming-Tips.pdf?mtime=20230306125707&focal=none

All submissions must be received by Tuesday 21st March at 5pm at the latest.

All submissions are to be submitted via Submittable which can be done here: https://nationaltheatreofscotland.submittable.com/submit/252950/self-tape-open-call-out

Why are we doing this?

We are keen to connect with actors that we have not already worked with. Please note, you will not be directly cast in one of our upcoming productions from this call out. This call out will help us become aware of actors who may not have previously been known to us, that we can consider auditioning for future National Theatre of Scotland casting opportunities.

What happens next?

All tapes will be viewed by our panel. You will have the option to choose whether you receive feedback or not. If you select to receive feedback it will relate to your self-tape set up, rather than your skills as an actor and will be sent to you by our Casting Co-ordinator. We will aim to provide feedback to the first 1000 applicants within 8 weeks of the closing date. Should your submission be numbered 1001 or more, you will be notified that we may not be able to return feedback within 8 weeks but will endeavour to provide the feedback as close to this as possible. If you have any issues regarding the submission of the self-tapes or the set text, please email casting@nationaltheatrescotland.com
