Prep: 2 contrasting songs of your own choice, plus dialogue from the script (sides will be emailed with confirmation of audition time slot)
Female. Playing age 20-28. Lead Role (required to play other parts at times) Appearance: Black (Ghanaian & Grenadian)
Accent: English-Standard (specifically RP crossed with Multicultural London English) Height/Weight: Any
CASSI is a 20-something actress/creative, acutely aware of racial injustice and overtly frustrated with the status quo.
Economically and educationally privileged, she can be insensitive to the needs of her peers and oblivious to the struggles they face.
Introverted yet opinionated, witty and intellectual with an obscure sense of humour.
Strong Actress/Versatile Mezzo-Soprano with command of Contemporary Musical Theatre, Classical/Legit, Pop and Gospel/Soul vocal styles. Play is a three-hander with featured roles split between cast so actor must be comfortable multi-roling and working with extended monologues. Some movement and basic dance skills required. Exact vocal range TBC as most songs can be transposed to a key which best suits the actor.
Female. Playing age 20-28. Lead Role (required to play other parts at times) Appearance: Mixed Race (White British & Jamaican)
Accent: Mid-Essex or any other non-RP, non-London UK accent. Height/Weight: Any
SIMONE is a vocal masters student/creative in her mid-twenties training to be an opera singer at Conservatoire and freelancing as a creative assistant.
Born and raised in the East of England, she believes theatre has the power to change lives but is wary of the indulgences of the liberal arts world.
Troubled by social injustice, with a strong moral compass and keen sense of duty. Witty, amiable, acquiescent and indecisive.
Strong Actress/Classical Mezzo-Soprano. Command of classical/opera vocal styles essential. Comfortable singing in Russian and English. Play is a three-hander with featured roles split between cast so actor must be comfortable multi-roling and working with extended monologues. Some movement and basic dance skills required.
Female/Non-Binary. Playing age Any. Supporting/Multi-role.
Actor-Musician - Piano (ideal but not essential).
Appearance: AME (Asian, or minority ethnic)
BENNY is an enigma. They are present onstage for the majority of the scenes and take on the bulk of multi- roling requirements in the play. Parts covered include GAMESHOW HOST, THEATRE PRODUCER, CASTING DIRECTOR, BITTER ACTRESS, PERSON, VOICEOVER.
They have a featured solo song and ideally accompany the other musical numbers live onstage.
Versatile actor with strong music skills and great comic timing. Play is a three-hander with featured roles split between cast so actor must be comfortable multi-roling and working with extended monologues. Ideally a highly-skilled pianist, comfortable playing classical/opera and musical theatre piano accompaniments. Comfortable cueing sounds from laptop onstage.
